Pizza dough crust from 100% whole wheat flour that is soft inside and crispy on the outside. Use with your favourite pizza toppings or pizza recipes.
INGREDIENTS
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
2 teaspoons sugar
3/4 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon sunflower oil or extra virgin olive oil
2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
INSTRUCTIONS
In a mixing bowl, combine yeast, water, sugar, 2 cups flour, salt and olive oil.
Mix and knead this mixture using a hand held mixture or by hand, until the dough just comes together.
Add the remaining 1/4 cup flour in small portions just until dough is no longer sticky. (I did not need to add the full 1/4 cup).
Shape dough into a ball and coat using oil lightly. Place in a lightly greased clean bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise at warm temperature ( such as a preheated oven) until doubled for about 1 hour.
Punch down risen dough and place on a lightly floured surface. Shape dough into a ball. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate/freeze for later use or bake right away using your favourite toppings.
