Caramelized apples wrapped in homemade flaky little pockets of pastry made completely from scratch and with a hint of cinnamon. A must-try recipe !
INGREDIENTS
2 cups small diced and peeled apples (diced as small as possible)
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
Homemade puff pastry
( Make them from here - https://www.rupzbaking.com/post/homemade-puff-pastry)
1 tablespoon condensed milk for glaze
Flour, for dusting work surface
1 egg, whisked
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat Oven to 210˚C. In a saucepan, melt 1 Tbsp butter over medium heat. Add diced apples and cook, stirring occasionally until softened.
Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Continue to simmer until apples are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Thoroughly beat together 1 egg and 1 Tbsp water and keep aside.
Dust work surface with flour and take the puff pastry out of fridge . Use a rolling pin roll the dough into a 11" square. With a knife or pizza cutter, cut into 4 equal-sized squares. Place cooled apple mixture over half of each square, leaving at least a 1/2" border.
Brush egg wash lightly on edges of the pastry (just enough to seal), bring the edges together and crimp tightly along the edges with a fork to seal.
Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet, keeping them at least 1" apart. With a paring knife, cut 2 small slits in the top of each turnover. Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 23 minutes or until golden and puffed.
While turnovers are still warm, drizzle glaze over turnovers. Enjoy !
