CHOCOLATE VANILLA TEA CAKE

Light and fluffy cake with an amazing swirls of chocolate and vanilla. A cake that is easy to make and tastes amazing !

INGREDIENTS


150g all-purpose flour or cake flour

3 eggs, separated ( put egg whites and yolks into two separate bowls )

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

110g unsalted butter

125g granulated sugar ( 1 teaspoon sugar to be set aside for egg whites)

2 drops vanilla essence

10g cocoa powder (dissolve this in 1 tablespoon milk)

100ml milk

INSTRUCTIONS


Preheat oven to 180-degree C. Prepare a round cake tin with parchment paper.


Sift flour , baking powder and salt and set aside.


In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar well. Add in the egg yolks followed by vanilla essence and whisk well until everything is incorporated very well .


In another bowl, whisk egg white with 1 teaspoon sugar till turns stiff peaks. Add this to the butter sugar mixture and combine well.


Next, fold in the flour mixture followed by milk and combine well.

Now divide the batter equally into two separate bowls. Mix in the dissolved cocoa powder and whisk until combined well.


In the prepared cake tin, pour 1 spoon of chocolate batter followed by 1 spoon of vanilla batter on top of the chocolate batter. Alternate this until the full batter is complete.


Use a skewer to create a design on top of the cake.


Bake this until a toothpick comes out clean for about 50 minutes. Transfer onto the wire rack and allow to cool completely. Slice and enjoy !
