HOMEMADE TOFFEE

A toffee with a rich buttery caramel flavor topped with delicious coating of milk chocolate and toasted almonds . A recipe that is unbelievably easy and toffee that is so addictive that you won't share.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup chopped almonds

1 cup unsalted butter ** (read notes)

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

5 pieces of milk chocolate** ( read notes - I used AMUL milk chocolate)

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 180 degree Celsius.

Line a baking tin with parchment paper. Spread the chopped almonds and toast them either on the stove or in the oven for 10 minutes. Keep some aside to sprinkle on top.

In the same saucepan, combine butter, sugar vanilla and salt over low heat. Whisk continuously until the butter has melted and sugar mixture is almond brown in color,

I would start bubbling and do not stop whisking the mixture turns brown.

Spread the hot mixture Immediately evenly over the almonds. Put in the chocolate bits or chocolate chips and spread them evenly until the chocolate layer is smooth. Sprinkle with almonds.

Cool this completely either in the refrigerator or at room temperature for close to 2 hours. Break into pieces and enjoy !!!

Notes :

  • Butter should not be melted completely by heating or be very cold. They should just be at room temperature else the butter will separate when mixed with the sugar.

  • You can use 2 tablespoons water in case you see that the sugar is not mixing well with the butter.

  • You can use milk chocolate or chocolate chips directly onto the hot caramel and they would melt. Spread them evenly once melted.
