WHOLE WHEAT BAKED DOUGHNUT HOLES

Soft, fluffy and cute easy-to-make recipe that is ready to serve in less than 30 minutes. A great mid-afternoon treat that will help to satisfy your doughnut craving.


INGREDIENTS


2 cups whole wheat flour

Pinch of salt

3 eggs

3 tablespoon sugar

1 cup warm milk

3 tablespoon active dry yeast

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/4 c butter, melted

Orange zest of half an orange

Melted butter, for dipping

Powdered sugar and cinnamon mixture

Chopped milk chocolate pieces

Chopped almond


INSTRUCTIONS


Whisk together whole wheat flour and salt. Set aside.


Place yeast, lukewarm water, and 1 teaspoon sugar in a small bowl. Set aside until foamy.

Beat egg, the rest of the sugar, vanilla extract and orange zest into the yeast mixture.

Add the flour mixture and then the coconut oil, mix with either a stand mixer or hand mixer until it starts to come together.


Flour a work surface and knead until dough is smooth for about 8-10 minutes (add more flour if necessary). Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Set in a warm place to rise until doubled, about 1 hour.


Roll the dough and using a cookie cutter or measuring cup, cut into small circles about 1.5 inches. Place them on a a baking dish or tray with parchment paper and cover these with plastic wrap and let it rise for 30 minutes.


Tip : You can even use a muffin tray for even shape.


Preheat oven to 200°C.


Bake for 8 to 10 min or until lightly browned. Take each ball and roll into the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Set aside


Melt chopped chocolate in a double boiler until smooth and dip the doughnuts in them or drop smooth melted chocolate onto the doughnut holes. Decorate with almond bites and allow the chocolate to set.
